2009 Bach to Blues Will Pay Tribute to Gilroy's Great Jazz Vocalist, Ivie Anderson

WHO: Ivie Anderson was born in Gilroy, and was a popular singer with the Duke Ellington's orchestra. She performed "Stormy Weather" in the movie short Bundle of Blues (1933), and also appeared in the Marx Brothers movie A Day at the Races (1937) and Hit Parade of 1937. Anderson is also known for performing "It Don't Mean a Thing (If it Ain't Got That Swing)."

WHAT: Bach to Blues is an annual showcase of regional talent, featuring Gavilan College faculty, students and performers from the community. This year's line-up includes pianist Maria Amirkhanian, guitarist John Garcia, blues vocalist Nate Pruitt with his band, Primary Colors, the Suzuki Violin Academy and flamenco guitarist Alberto Marques. The show will begin with a performance by the winner of the Marian Filice Youth Piano Competition.
