Meal program renewed for Gavilan College Child Development Center

The Gavilan College Child Development Center announces renewed sponsorship of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the academic year 2010-2011. Through CACF, children from households that receive Food Stamps, Kin-GAP, or FDPIR benefits or CalWORKS are automatically eligible for free meal benefits. In addition, children from households with qualifying incomes are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

In addition to market-rate preschool and childcare for the community, the Gavilan College Child Development Center offers subsidized childcare programs that are designed for families with financial challenges. The General Campus and General Child Care Preschool are provided for children who have at least one parent enrolled at Gavilan College. Students enrolled in 6 or more units with the highest financial need have priority. The Half-Day State Preschool has income criteria, but parental enrollment at Gavilan College is not mandatory.

Gavilan College Child Development Center provides a safe, loving, secure environment that fosters each child's unique cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development within a well-planned environment. The program strives to meet both age and developmentally appropriate practices emphasizing hands-on learning and development of strong, supportive relationships.
The Child Development Center's highly trained staff are all CPR/First Aid certified. The center is located in a state-of-the-art facility on the Gavilan College Gilroy campus. For more information about the Gavilan College Child Development Center, call (408) 848-4815.
