Gavilan College Welcomes Al & Jane Nakatani from Honor Thy Children

Who: Al and Jane Nakatani's story has been told through the compelling book Honor Thy Children by Molly Fumia. Al and Jane eloquently discuss how prejudice, discrimination, and ignorance lead to human denigration as they encourage us to promote acceptance of human diversity.

The Nakatanis have survived the heart-wrenching deaths of all 3 of their children. Their sons' deaths to AIDS and violence, inspired them to become agents of social change.

What: The Nakatani's will show a segment from a documentary on their family and discuss the content with the audience while taking questions. The audience is advised to view the full documentary before the presentation by visiting https://vimeo.com/33421616.

Some of the topics that will be discussed are HIV-AIDS, homophobia, racial and gender stereotyping, parenting, and LGBT human rights.
