JFT35:  FIRE FIGHTER SURVIVAL


Course Description

This 16 hour Fire Fighter Survival course was developed in the continuing effort to reduce the number of fire fighter injuries and fatalities that occur on an annual basis. The course will supply the student with a greater understanding of the need for situational awareness, fire fighter survival skills, and the technical survival skills to help avoid committing fatal errors on the fireground. This course is a pass/no pass course. ADVISORY: Employed as a Fire Fighter.


Learning Outcomes

  • Students will interpret Fire Fighter survival terminology.
  • Recognize the involvement of the Federal Government to reduce fire fighter injuries and fatalities, and the guidelines and laws put in place from tragic fire loss events.
  • Identify fire fighter fatality case study recommendations to enhance fire fighter training and to handle their own emergencies on the fireground.
  • Apply techniques for developing fire fighter survival attitude and identify personal equipment that fire fighters should carry in their possession for self-preparedness measures.
  • Develop situational awareness to prevent the fire fighter emergencies and recognize critical structural fireground factors.
  • Develop and apply the skills and the application of"When to call a fire fighter emergency"and demonstrate emergency communications when fire fighters become lost, trapped, or disoriented inside a burning structure.
  • Demonstrate SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) and techniques for air awareness and SCBA air emergencies, and apply them during hands-on evolutions.
