GUID27:  CONTEMP LEADERSHIP


Course Description

A cross-disciplinary approach to the theory and practice of leadership. Includes effective communication styles including issues related to gender and culture. Class includes topics on ethics, power, and how to run effective meetings including the use of parliamentary procedure. Skills directly applicable to work, personal and college environments. Also listed as POLS 27 and PSYC 27. ADVISORY: Eligible for English 250 and English 260.


Learning Outcomes

  • Students will analyze and assess contemporary leadership theory. Course is not connected to a program; it is support of student government activities.
  • Students will practice effective personal leadership skills. Students will plan, implement, and evaluate individual or small group leadership projects. Course is not connected to a program; it is support of student government activities.
  • Students will apply knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order, Community College Participatory Governance practices, and California Brown Act regulations. Course is not connected to a program; it is support of student government activities.
  • 4) Students will demonstrate understanding of gender and cultural differences in leadership roles and group interactions
