ENGL12C:  TUTORING WRITERS: THEORY


Course Description

Compositional theory and responses to writing across the curriculum will be covered. In addition, students will gain an understanding of the methodology and theory of tutoring pedagogy, while participating in a community of writers that connects them to their own writing practice. ADVISORY: Eligible for English 1A.


Learning Outcomes

  • Students will define and apply theories of tutoring writing in a variety of settings, including the Writing Center, classrooms, and supplemental instruction groups.
  • Students will observe and analyze tutoring work and the writing of other students in order to gain a deeper understanding of the theories of writing pedagogy and compositional processes.
  • Students will interact with faculty across the curriculum in order to interpret current writing conditions on campus, analyze their effectiveness, and strategize about developing a dynamic and supportive writing environment for all.
  • Students will analyze their tutoring work and the writing of other students in order to gain a deeper understanding of compositional theory and tutoring pedagogy.
