AH30:  1ST AID/CPR


Course Description

First aid training to prepare people to meet the needs of emergencies when medical assistance is delayed. Incorporates the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Includes information on the care of wounds, fractures, burns, poisoning, shock, as well as elementary rescue transportation. A satisfactory grade qualifies the student for a Red Cross Standard First Aid card and the Red Cross CPR card. May be repeated three times for credit.


Learning Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to perform CPR for one-person and two-person rescues of adults, children, and infants.
  • Students will demonstrate the skills necessary for assessing and providing first aid care for sudden illness and injuries until Emergency Medical Services arrive and assume care.
  • Students will be able to distinguish the signs of a heart attack, stroke and respiratory emergencies.
  • Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to assess and treat a conscious and unconscious victim with an airway obstruction caused by a foreign body.
  • The student is able to identify when an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is necessary and is able to correctly demonstrate the appropriate use of the device.
  • Students will be able to identify strategies for prevention of injuries in children and infants.
