Course Description

A study of the earth and the physical properties which modify the earth; minerals, rocks, geologic structures and processes. ADVISORY: Eligible for English 250 and English 260.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify, describe, compare&contrast basic rocks&minerals
  • Identify, describe, compare&contrast the elements of plate tectonics, earthquakes&volcanism
  • Demonstrate ability at interpreting landforms from topographic maps&aerial photos
  • Identify, describe, compare&contrast the concepts of physical&chemical weathering processes. Identify& describe the mass wasting processes&controls
  • Identify, describe, compare&contrast river, coastal, desert&glacial processes&landforms
  • Identify&describe the concepts of Geologic Time
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify&describe examples of landforms&processes on geologic field trip or within a written report
