LIB140:  ONLINE HEALTH RESEARCH


Course Description

A beginning course on how to find reliable and current health-related information, using the Internet and other electronic resources. This course is also listed as AH 140.


Learning Outcomes

  • Measure: Differentiate among the different tools of popular brosers and demonstrate the ability to navigate the Internet
  • Measure: Evaluate URLs for websites to determine origin, currency, and reliability, and assess the value of different sources in answering specific research questions
  • Measure: Determine search strategies that are efficient for specific research problems, and modify strategies according to results
  • Measure: Determine best sources (Internet sites, periodicals, books, etc) to answer specific research problems
  • Measure: Differentiate between popular and scholarly sources of information and be able to apply the knowledge to specific research problems
  • Measure: Construct search strategies using appropriate commands for the information retrieval system selected
  • Measure: Assesses the quantity , quality and relevance of the search results to determine whether alternative information retrieval systems or invetigative methods should be utilized
  • Measure: Differentiate between the types of sources cited and be able to use the elements and correct syntax of a citation for a wide range of resources
  • Measure: Examine and compare information from various sources in order to evaluate reliability, validity, accuracy, authority, timeliness and point of view bias
